the beginning

"For I desired, as Youth does, to be taken by the hand and hurled into the world. But who would do the hurling. And what would I wear?"
patti smith {we can be heroes [from Details, July 1993]}

 (age 8, my parents really didn't censor what I wore)

When I was a little girl, I wondered why adults never wore bright colors in their wardrobes. I noticed that most of them had resigned themselves to black, white, grey, and brown. I vowed to myself never to forget to add color into my wardrobe as an adult and, in respect for the whimsy of my youth, I’ve tried to keep that vow.
